Alzheimer’s Research UK

In a heartfelt tribute to Jhunu Maya Dangol, The Great Kathmandu Tandoori Restaurant, co-founded by Gopal and Jhunu Maya Dangol in 1986, is proud to announce a charity event benefiting Alzheimer’s Research UK. As the restaurant nears the completion of its fourth decade in business, this special occasion will take place on Sunday, 30th June 2024, from 12pm to 4pm, at the restaurant’s premises.

Jhunu Maya Dangol, the beloved matriarch of the Dangol family, succumbed to Alzheimer’s in 2020. Alzheimer’s disease is not just a loss of memory but a thief of dignity and independence. It gradually stripped Jhunu Maya of her ability to recognize the faces of her loving family, to partake in conversations that were once the heart of family gatherings, and to navigate the world with the confidence she once embodied. This slow and painful process deeply impacted her family and all who knew her. Inspired by the community’s outpouring of support during her funeral procession along Burton Road, and the ongoing love and support from the Didsbury community and local businesses during this difficult period, the family has organized this event in her memory to raise awareness and support for Alzheimer’s research, aiming to alleviate the suffering caused by this devastating disease.
